InVox began in November of 2004 singing in a basement and calling themselves Underground Sound. Over the next three years,

the group would see itself grow into one of Chicago's premier a cappella forces. With hip arrangements of songs in every genre

and a growing original repertoire, InVox has entertained at venues small and large, counting Six Flags Great America,

Chicago's Navy Pier and Millennium Park, the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, the University of Illinois,

and Red Moon Theater Chicago among its past performance spots. From February to May of 2007, the group recorded

their eponymous debut album, Invoxication the EP, with Bill Messner of Masterwerkz Studios and released it in early 2008

to a crowd of hundreds at Chicago's Apollo Theater. InVox is proud to be spreading their passion for music throughout

its hometown and beyond, and the group plans to release its first full length CD sometime in 2008.  Until then...

Get ready to be Invoxicated!

C. Alex Juarez—Music Director

When people think of Alex they usually think of his dog Russell, The Ohio State University, or coffee beans. He's an original group member and has been the director and primary arranger for InVox since its inception. Aside from a cappella, Alex fills his schedule teaching private music lessons, guitar classes, directing children and adult church choirs, writing lots of music, going to lots of rehearsals and singing in the all-male a cappella group, 6 Figures.  Go Buckeyes!

Lisa Akey—Business Manager

A native of New Hampshire, Lisa landed in Chicago in 2002 for college and never left. When she's not making the world's next big ad, you can find her playing ultimate frisbee, rooting for the Red Sox & Patriots, or taking pictures of food. Lisa is an alum of Northwestern University's X-Factors and writes many of InVox's arrangements.

Holly Bowen

This native Tennesseean moved to Chicago in 2006 and instantly fell in love...with the city, that is. (Though she is also involved in a secret long-distance love affair with Canada.) Holly is a software developer by day and a fanatical sci-fi geek by night; she enjoys video editing, deep-dish pizza, addiction to the Internet, and obsessing over Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Battlestar Galactica. Holly sang with the fabulous ladies of Take Note at Clemson University - go Tigers!

Ben Ferguson

Ben is, or has been at some point, a vocalist, a drummer, a comedian, a poet, a nun-humping primate with floppy ears, a teacher, a podcaster, a bunch o’ grapes, a neologist, a guide, a banana, a blogger, an inventor, and a world traveler. He’s currently a (lifelong) medical student and graduate student in cancer biology at the University of Chicago and sang with No Strings Attached at the University of Illinois. GO ILLINI.

Matt Finder—Treasurer

Matt sings baritone in InVox and enjoys bowling, Seinfeld, and listening to Nsync. He grew up in Chicago and spent his college days as a HOOSIER at Indiana University. Matt works at Chicago's Hit Music Space 103.5 KISS FM where he sells air. That’s right...air. Matt is one of the original members of InVox going back over three years ago.

Sean P. Gorecki

Sean is one of the top Vocal Percussionists in the Midwest and is one of the founding members of InVox. He has appeared as a Tone Ranger in the movie The Break-Up alongside Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Aniston, and several big hitters in the a cappella world. Sean teaches VP lessons in the Chicago area and hires himself out for other VP projects. He can been seen singing and spitting with 6 Figures, award-winning Vocal Chaos, and the Dock Street Singers/Mistletones at Navy Pier!

Lindsay Liden

Lindsay, of LaGrange, IL, began her a cappella career singing with No Comment Co-Ed A Cappella at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She now spends most of her time working it for Enterprise, but outside of work you're sure to find her with family and friends at a karaoke bar or an Asian restaurant.  Lindsay sings mezzo for InVox and is thrilled to continue singing with such a diverse group!

Lauren Lindner

Hailing from the glorious state of New Jersey, Lauren enjoys classic rock, red cowboy boots, hummus, and leaving the office at 5PM.  She was once a proud member of Northwestern University’s Significant Others.  Special thanks to caffeine and Bruce Springsteen for making it all possible.

John Magaña

A Michigan transplant, John is one of the original group members having been here since the beginning. He sings bass, but when he's not blasting out low notes he's baking up some sweet treats at Sweet Mandy B's bakery. Also, he has a pet cat named Jazz who would just like to say hi.

Jennifer Walus

Born in Guadalajara and raised in Leesburg, VA, Jenn was a closet shower-singer until high school. She went to Dartmouth where she sang with the award-winning all-female group, the Rockapellas. She met her Prince Charming and moved here to pursue public relations and multicultural marketing. Jenn's greatest accomplishment is her daughter, who witnessed many rehearsals in utero. She’s lived in Italy, has two Great Danes, and counts dirty Grey Goose martinis as her drink of choice.

Ian Fields—Asst. Music Director

Ian hails from the great state of Texas but unfortunately lacks the country twang to prove it.  After debuting his musical prowess in his living room at the age of six to the song "Part of Your World," he has come a long way to the Windy City where he wowed the crowds of Loyola University as the hottest, most talented member of Loyolacappella.  He wants you to know that he misses the days of pre-crack Whitney as well.

Samir Warty

Samir began singing a cappella at The University of Chicago in 1999. Since then, he has accomplished what he believes to be an a cappella career hat trick, having spent time singing with a coed group, an all-male group, and an all-female group. Samir is obsessed with his pug Elmo, statistics, and brewing his own beer. As yet, he has found no way to unite these obsessions without drawing the ire of the ASPCA, but the search continues. He hopes to one day learn to not split his infinitives.

Matt Belcher

Born and raised in the suburbs of Boston, Matt flew the coop in 2004 and landed in Chicago.  Invox is Matt's first a cappella venture, but he has sung Tenor in many a choir.  Matt is a lover of chocolate, perhaps even a chocoholic, but he hates hates hates chocolate cake!  He loves to use his camera and when he can pry himself away from being in front of it, he has produced some decent crap.  When asked to describe him in one word, she said...FABULOUS!

Emilee Lales

Emilee's a cappella journey began at the University of Chicago, where she arranged 80's hits on the backs of cocktail napkins and belted out the diva parts in the all-girl group Men in Drag (no men, no drag). Once described as personifying a sorority-girl and U of C library dork hybrid, she is a lover of all things pop culture and aspires to be a commentator on Best Week Ever. Pharmaceutical marketer by day and wedding planner by night, Emilee fills her spare moments as a Delta Gamma consultant. But she always has time for gossip.

Hanna Stotland

A native of Chicago (not the suburbs!), Hanna began singing alto with the Chicago Children's Choir at age seven. Hanna received undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University, but she devoted most of her time there to singing with the Veritones, Collegium Musicum, and Sisters of Kuumba, and music-directing the Law School Parody. She is a civil rights lawyer, an ICCA judge, a cheap date, and the doting aunt of four totally adorable kids.
